US: Job openings was little changed at 6.5 million in August

  • JOLTS Job Openings came in slightly lower than expected in August.

The number of job openings in the US declined from 6.7 million in July to 6.5 million in August, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in its latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary (JOLTS). This reading missed the market expectation of 6.68 million.

"Hires were little changed at 5.9 million in August," the publication further great. "Total separations decreased to 4.6 million. Within separations, the quits rate was little changed at 2.0% while the layoffs and discharges rate decreased to a series low of 1.0%."

Market reaction

The US Dollar Index showed no immediate reaction to this report and was last seen posting small daily gains at 93.48.
