US equities falls modestly, Europe finished lower

FXStreet (Córdoba) - Wall Street is falling marginally while European stocks opened the week with losses on a quiet Monday. The FTSE 1000 lost 0.35% while the Dax retreated 0.66%. In the US, the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 are retreating from record levels and fall 0.17% and 0.10% respectively.

Gold remains flat, around $1,318 an ounce, consolidating last week gains while crude oil is falling 0.75%, hovering around $106.05 a barrel.

Among economic indicators from the US, the Chicago Fed National Activity Index rose in May to +0.21 from -0.15, while sales of existing homes climbed 4.9% to 4.89 millions, above expectations. The Manufacturing Markit PMI preliminary reading also rose above expectations, climbing in June to 57.5 from 56.4.

Stephen Gallo, European Head of Currency Strategy at BMO Capital explained USD/CAD fell overnight as virtually the entire commodity bloc got a lift in Asian trade, except for the NOK.
