UK: Annual CPI up 1.5% in May

FXStreet (Barcelona) - On an annual basis UK inflation grew 1.5% in May, down from the 1.8% rise recorded the previous month, National Statistics informed on Tuesday. Analysts expected a 1.7% increase.

Month-on-month CPI fell 0.1%, compared with the 0.4% rise and against forecasts of +0.2%. Core CPI climbed 1.6%, down from the 2% increase and slightly below consensus of +1.7%.

GBP/USD dives down on disappointing CPI data

GBP/USD keeps its head down trading at 1.6980 right before the release of the UK CPI data, and reaching 1.6936 post the release.

EUR/GBP: Sterling falls on weaker-than-expected inflation data

Sterling has seen a sharp drop against most of its major pairs after consumer prices index-measured inflation (CPI) grew by 1.5 percent in the year to May 2014, down from 1.8 percent in April, according to data from the Office for National Statistics.
