US: Initial jobless claims fall to 338,000
FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - Initial jobless claims for regular state unemployment-insurance benefits fell by 42,000 to a seasonally adjusted 338,000 in the week ended Dec 21, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
This reading came in below expectations of 345,000 and also below the 380,000 (revised up from 379,000) registered the previous week. This is the largest drop in weekly claims since November 2012.
Continuing claims, which reflect people already receiving benefits, rose by 46,000 to a seasonally adjusted 2,923,000 in the week ended December 14 vs. 2,877,000 in the previous week (revised).
