Global markets overview: S&P 500 down - ANZ

Analysts at ANZ noted the action from overnight markets.

Key Quotes:

"Equity markets yielded some ground as NY Fed President Dudley said that the economy is edging closer to a rate rise and that a September move was possible. That will intensify the focus on the July FOMC Minutes tomorrow where the statement saw the Fed upgrade its assessment of the economy.

Dudley’s remarks also helped stabilise the USD which had earlier been weakening.

The S&P 500 was down 0.5% and the major European stocks finished 0.6-1.0% lower. The yield on the US 10-yr note pushed higher to 1.57% and oil continued its recovery (WTI +2% at USD46.5/bbl)."
