US stocks end slightly lower

US stocks ended slightly lower on Monday in the absence of news or events to drive trading, with major indices having spent the day in ranges.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 7 points, or 0.05%, to close at 17,494. The S&P 500 SPX, dropped 4 points, or 0.21%, to finish at 2,048. The Nasdaq lost 4 points, or 0.08%, to close at 4,765.
