NZD/USD trims daily losses, climbs back to 0.6800

FXStreet (Córdoba) - The New Zealand dollar managed to take back losses against the greenback during the New York session after finding support at the 100-hour SMA.

NZD/USD fell to a daily low of 0.6761 as the US dollar strengthened following solid personal income and durable goods orders data, but found support and climbed back to the 0.6800 area during the American afternoon, where it trades little changed on the day.

There is no data scheduled in New Zealand nor the US for the rest of the shortened week.

NZD/USD technical levels

In terms of technical levels, next supports could be found at 0.6758 (10-day SMA), 0.6720 (Dec 21 low) and 0.6700 (psychological level). On the flip side, resistances are seen at 0.6835 (Dec 22 high), 0.6865 (200-day SMA) and 0.6897 (Oct 15 high).

USD/JPY: below 121 ahead of BoJ minutes

USD/JPY traders await the BoJ minutes that are released tonight as well as Governor Kuroda speaking in Tokyo this evening. Then, tomorrow CPI, unemployment and household spending data are released as the final data for this side of Xmas. Meanwhile, the price action is to the downside and below the 121 handle in a continuation of the 123.55 drop on the 17th Dec and fed hike.

Oil extends recovery as inventories fall

West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures staged a nice comeback this Wednesday, after the US EIA reported that crude inventories fell, down by 5.9 million barrels in the week ending December 18. The American Petroleum Institute also reported a drop late Tuesday, informing a decrease of 3.6 million barrels, both way beyond market's expectations.
