Obama tells UN that strike on Syria off the table for now

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - US President Barack Obama spoke before the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday focusing mostly on Syria and saying that a military strike on the country was currently off the table, due to the Assad regime's cooperation on handing over its chemical weapons.

The US president called for firm action in order to ban chemical weapons and emphasized that “evidence is overwhelming that the Assad regime used such weapons on August 21st .” He declared however his preference for a diplomatic solution to the conflict and expressed satisfaction with the regime's willingness to carry out the chemical disarmament.

Obama defended his initial call for a strike on Syria saying that the US “is prepared to use all elements of our power, including military force, to secure these core interests in the region.”
