US equities in retreat after weak Consumer Spending
FXstreet.com (New York) - The US stock market experienced a mixed mostly lower opening Friday, on the heels of generally weak data.
In the United States, Personal Spending (July) grew only +0.1%, missing estimates of +0.3%. Moreover, Core Personal Consumption Expenditure – Price Index (YoY) yielded a figure of +1.2% in July, matching expectations.
Beginning with the indices and composites, today the NASDAQ fell -0.19% as it settles in region of 3613.52, down -6.84 points in these moments. In addition, the S&P 500 is trading in positive territory, operating at 1637.28, ascending +0.16 points or +0.01% at the time of writing. Finally, the Dow Jones has moved lower at the opening, trading in the zone of 14828.73, presently -0.08% after a movement of -12.21 points.
Moving to commodities, the price of gold has settled at $1395.20 per oz., while silver is now negotiating a spot price of $23.47 per oz. Friday.
In terms of FX, the EUR/USD is now trading at 1.3215 (-0.19%), the USD/JPY has settled at 98.25 (-0.10%), the GBP/USD at 1.5487 (-0.13%), and the USD/CHF at 0.9313 (+0.03%).
