ECB's Draghi: Inflation strategy the focus of today's meeting
FXStreet (Łódź) - In an interview published today in the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, ahead of the announcement of the monetary policy decision, ECB head Mario Draghi signaled that during the meeting the Governing Council would focus on inflation strategy.
"We have a duty to deliver our most important commitment, which is to bring inflation back close to 2%, Draghi said. "We will discuss tomorrow how we can continue to get closer to that aim."
The ECB president stressed however that it couldn't be done only through monetary policy and pointed to higher investment as key to achieving a sustained recovery in the Eurozone. That in turn needs to be stimulated by national governments, which should implement favorable fiscal and structural policies.
The euro remained unmoved on the reiterated comments.
